San Giorgio Palace Hotel Ragusa Ibla
We were sensitive to the rock itself here: some of the garden rooms at this...
Iblaresort sets a small boutique hotel inside Ragusa Ibla's historic fabric, a few steps from the Duomo di San Giorgio, and gives it a contemporary interior that contrasts deliberately with the baroque stone outside. The real asset sits on the roof: a panoramic terrace that looks out over the San Lorenzo valley and the tumble of Ibla's baroque rooftops, where breakfast is served each morning using locally farmed ingredients rather than a packaged buffet. Eight rooms sit below it, several with their own scenic balcony, a scale that keeps the house personal despite its full programme of amenities and activities.
We kept this hotel for a terrace that does double duty as the house's identity and its best amenity: a working view over one of Sicily's great baroque townscapes, used for breakfast and for the wine tastings and cooking courses the hotel runs through the week. A private jacuzzi suite and junior suites with hydromassage showers push the amenity level well past what an eight-room address in a hill town usually offers, without losing the intimacy that comes with so few keys.
Via del Mercato sits inside Ragusa Ibla, the lower and older half of the city, rebuilt in gold limestone after the 1693 earthquake and recognised by UNESCO for it. The Duomo di San Giorgio and Ibla's maze of baroque lanes and piazzas are a short walk away, and the quarter stays quiet enough in the evenings to make the terrace's valley view feel private rather than shared with a crowd. Scicli, Modica, Noto and Syracuse are all reachable within half an hour to an hour by car, making the hotel a workable base for exploring Sicily's baroque triangle beyond Ragusa itself, with the coast at Marina di Ragusa not far past that.

Room categories range from standard doubles with a scenic balcony to the top suite, which carries its own private jacuzzi, and three junior suites fitted with hydromassage showers rather than a standard stall. A separate guest house about two hundred metres away adds a bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette, useful for a longer stay or a family wanting its own space apart from the main house. The wine bar is run as a genuine programme rather than a minibar substitute, with tastings of Sicilian producers and cooking courses that use the same local ingredients as the breakfast table, turning an evening in into part of the stay rather than a fallback.
The guest house option is worth requesting directly if a kitchenette or extra privacy matters, since it isn't the default room type. Ragusa Ibla's steep, stepped streets mean the hotel is best reached with light luggage or a short taxi from a car park outside the old town. Travellers planning to use the hotel as a base for Scicli, Modica or Noto should budget a half-day per town, since the baroque triangle rewards slow visits over a rushed circuit, and the terrace is worth timing a sunset return for after a day on the road.
